As part of Democracy Reporting International Lebanon’s closing event of its media project 2024, Hayat Mirshad, editor-in-chief of Sharika wa Laken feminist platform, spoke in a panel about the sustainability and impact of independent media. Mirshad emphasized the role of feminist media in promoting women’s and girls’ rights and amplifying their voices during the currently challenging context.

Despite the war and the political and security climate in Lebanon, 22 journalists from all over the country’s regions managed to produce 71 media outputs in a single year. In collaboration with six media outlets, journalists expressed their opinions freely and produced articles and videos on a variety of subjects linked to the political reform theme. Their articles sparked a broad discussion on social media, and their video reports have received hundreds of thousands of views. Sharika wa Laken mentored a number of these journalists to create content that is gender sensitive and focused on women’s issues.
